The Olympics have a very long history. They began in 776 BC and took place every four years for nearly 1200 years at Olympia, in Greece. The citizens of all the Greek states were invited to take part in the Games. The prizes were wreaths made of the branches of olive trees.

In 394 AD the games were stopped by the Roman Emperor Theodosius, and they weren’t held again until 1896. The games of 1896 were held at Athens and they were the first international Olympic Games. All the nations of the world were invited to send athletic teams.

From then and until the present time the Olympic Games have been international and the number of athletes taking part and the number of events on the programme have increased. In these games only amateurs or non-professional athletes can take part. Each country sends teams for as many of different events as possible. The winners of each event are given a certain number of points. The International Olympic Committee decides where each Olympics will take place. They ask a city (not a country) to be the host.

Educational camps in our school. Which camp do you prefer-summer or winter? Why? Tell about your favourite activity during the camps.

Educational camps play an important role in our school life. They help us learn new things, make friends, and develop our skills outside the classroom. In our school we have both summer and winter camps, and each of them offers different opportunities for learning and fun. Although both camps are interesting, I personally prefer the summer camp.

I like the summer camp because the weather is warm and we can spend a lot of time outdoors. During summer camp we usually go on excursions, play football and volleyball, and enjoy nature. We also have creative activities such as drawing, theatre, and singing. The atmosphere is always friendly, and everybody communicates easily. Summer camp helps students relax after school and get ready for the new academic year.

My favourite activity during summer camp is the sports competitions. I enjoy working in a team, training together, and trying to win. Sports teach us discipline, respect, and cooperation. Another thing I like is evening campfires where we talk, tell stories, and sing songs. Those moments create real memories that stay with us for a long time.
